Your SPC WILD STAR includes GPS functionality so you can share your location through the SPC Circles app with the people you choose, or to send your location when you activate the SOS function in an emergency situation.
This function is disabled by default to avoid excessive battery consumption if you do not need this feature. But activating it is very simple, both from your device (navigating on the phone through Menu, "Connectivity," "GPS": On) and from the SPC Circles app (once you have linked your device with the app).
To better understand how GPS works in each situation, below we provide an explanatory guide for each scenario.
SOS Emergency Situation:
It is not necessary to activate the GPS function directly to benefit from it in an emergency situation, since when you have activated the last option in the SOS settings, Send location, and you activate the SOS function by pressing the dedicated rear button for this purpose, the device will search for the nearest satellite signal to send its location.
When it is not possible to obtain a satellite signal, because it is inside a building or there is no good GPS signal, the device will obtain the cell location and send it; although this location is not as precise as a GPS satellite location, it is an approximate location that will allow us to know where the SPC WILD STAR user is.
This information will be sent in 2 different ways:
- Via SMS to the list of SOS Contacts that you have preconfigured in the SOS options of your SPC WILD STAR. This SMS will include a link that will show the location (GPS or cell tower) on a map.
- Via a notification in the SPC Circles app. This option is more immediate, so it is recommended to install and register in the application and link the device.
Normal usage situation in the SPC Circles app:
The SPC Circles app provides the location of the SPC WILD STAR automatically every hour when GPS is enabled.
During the early morning hours, between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM, the location will only be obtained every 3 hours automatically to save battery.
It also allows you to obtain the location manually by requesting the location in real time.
NOTE: Indoor location is approximate, since as a mobile device without a WiFi antenna, the location is based on satellite connection.
Indoors, due to structures such as walls or ceilings, this satellite connection is weakened, reducing the possibility of connecting to the satellites needed to obtain the most precise location possible. This can lead to variations in the position that is sent.
To obtain a more precise location, it is ideal to place the device as close as possible to a window.
